The more worse the degree of efficiency of the loudspeakers, the more higher amplifier engine outputs are needed. The best example for this are e.g. the electrostatic loudspeakers designed by the company “Sound-Labs” from the USA. These loudspeakers, by the way one of the best in the High End Market, have a 80dB degree of efficiency, depending on the particular model. In the worst case they bring an output of 10uF at the terminals, which shows us clearly that the charge reversal of such output dimensions is only possible with an adequate electricity of the amplifier.

This is the reason for the necessity of developing a high-power amplifier that not only handles the exisiting problems without difficulty, but also supplies an excellent sound impression.

It is well-known that tube power amplifiers match better with electrostatics and our Challenger series has proved this more than once. But now, with the Challenger 400s, we have finally rised up into the class of loudspeakers for which you usually had to search for suitable and affordable power amplifiers. Challenger 400 power amplifiers create a symbiosis of phantasy and engineering art with magnetostatics as well.

Like all bigger AudioValve power amplifiers, the Challenger 400 uses our established PP conception which has proved himself as very reliably and stable for more than a decade. Moreover the Challenger 400 is equipped with substantial stabilization and regulation appliances (e.g. automatic bias regulation for every tube) which make this power amplifier bear up under all circumstances. No matter if you take off the loudspeaker terminals while the amplifier is working, if you bypass the pole terminals (120 Amp.) or if you install the pole terminals with 15 uF, just inductive or even mixed up – our Challenger 400s are working absolutely stable under all loading cases and are sort of “undestroyable”.

The past has shown clearly that this unique operation in the amplifier production, developed by our house, reduces breakdowns at amplfiiers of our manufacture nearly completely.

But lets go back once again to the conception. The Challenger 400, like his smaller collegues, is built completely symmetric. It is populated with 2 banks of end tubes, each with 6 pieces and own power supplies. This amplifier uses a driver unit with a cross coupled and parallel-mirror symmetrical arrangement which is also able to generate a complementary signal at asymmetric signal input (RCA).

The high voltage capacitiy of the power supplies of an amplifier adds up to about 6000uF and delivers the power resources whenever the power amplifier needs them. "Soft -Curren Limiters make sure that all electronical parts, Elkos and tubes are adducted to the voltage slowly when switching on the amplifier. This accounts immense for the increasing of the life expectancy of all electronical parts in the amplifier.

The technical interior is completed by visual displays like the magic eye for showing the power output level or LEDs at the front panel which give you information about the intact voltage rati of the tube banks.

Mit schlechterem Wirkungsgrad des Lautsprechers, wird der Bedarf an Verstärkerleistung zunehmend höher. Bestes Beispiel dafür sind z.B. die elektrostischen Lautsprecher der Fa. "Sound-Labs" aus den USA. Bei diesen Lautsprecher elektrostatischer Natur, der zu den Spitzenreitern der High-End Szene zählt, liegt der Wirkungsgrad bei ca. 80 dB, abhängig vom jeweiligen Modell. Im schlechtesten Fall stellt er eine Kapazität von 10 uF an den Klemmen, und spätestens hier wird besonders deutlich, das der Umladung solcher Kapazitätsgrößen bei hohen Frequenzen nur mit genügend Strom seitens des Verstärkers beizukommen ist.

Die Branche begegnet dieser Tatsache mit großen Transistorendstufen, wobei immer noch eine große Zahl der Geräte an dieser komplexen Last "abraucht", vom bescheidenen Klangbild ganz zu schweigen.
Hier liegt die Begründung für die Erfordernisse an die Entwicklung an einen Hochleistungsverstärker, der mit den vorliegenden Problemen nicht nur spielerisch fertig wird, sondern darüber hinaus auch noch ein ausgezeichnetes Klangbild liefert. Das Röhrenendstufen ohnehin besser mit Elektrostaten kombinieren ist hinlänglich bekannt und unsere Challenger- Baureihe hat dies oft unter Beweis gestellt. Mit den Challenger 400 jedoch, ist nun auch der Spung in die Leistungsklasse derjenigen Lautsprecher gelungen, für die man bislang noch nach brauchbaren - und wenn überhaupt bezahlbaren - Endstufen suchen musste. Challenger 400 Endstufen bilden auch an Magnetostaten eine Symbiose aus Phantasie und Ingenieurskunst die zu ungeahnetem Hörgenuß aufwartet.

Wie alle größeren Endstufen von AudioValve, basiert das Verstärkerkonzept auf unserem bewährten PP Prinzip. Nicht nur das sich dieses Prinzip in unserem Hause seit über einem Jahrzehnt in Kundenkreisen als äusserst stabil bewährt hat, so ist auch die Challenger 400 mit umfangreichen Stabilisierungs - und Regelungsvorrichten (autom.Biasreg. für jede Endröhre) ausgestattet, die die Endstufen unter allen Belastungen stand halten lassen. Es spielt keine Rolle, ob Sie die Lautsprecherklemmen des Verstärkers bei laufendem Gerät abziehen, oder die Polklemmen kurzschließen (120 Amp.), ob Sie die Polklemmen mit 15 uF oder nur induktiv oder aber gemischt abschließen, unsere Challenger 400 arbeitet unter allen Lastfällen hochstabil und sind sozusagen - "unkaputtbar".

Die Vergangenheit hat deutlich gezeigt, das dieses von uns einzigartig entwickelte und angewandte Verfahren im Verstärkerbau die Ausfälle der Geräte zumindest aus unserem Werk gegen Null werden läßt.

Aber noch einmal zurück zum Konzept. Die Challenger 400 ist auch wie Ihre kleineren Kollegen streng voll symetrisch aufgebaut, bestückt mit zwei Bänken Endröhren von jeweils 6 Stück und eigenen Netzteilen ausgestattet, bedient sich dieser Verstärker eines Treibers nach kreuzgekoppelt und parallel-spiegelsymtrischer Anordnung, welcher auch in der Lage ist, bei asymetrischer Einspeisung des Signales (RCA) ein komplementär - Signal für die Endstufe zu generieren.
Die Hochvolt - Kapazität der Netzteile eines Verstärkers beläuft sich auf insgesamt ca. 6000uF und liefert die Kraftreserven, wann immer die Endstufe danach verlangt. "Soft - Curren -Limiter sorgen dafür, das beim Einschalten der Endstufe alle elekronischen Bauteile Elkos und Röhren langsam an die Spannung herangeführt werden und tragen damit erheblich zur Erhöhung der Lebensdauererwartung der Bauelemente der Endstufen bei.

Abgerundet wird das technische Interieur der Endstufe durch optische Anzeigen, wie da wären ein magisches - Auge zur Aussteuerkontrolle oder auf der Front die Verwendung von LED Anzeigen, die Aufschluss geben über die intakten Spannungsverhältnisse der Röhrenbänke. Nicht zuletzt resultiert aus der Kraft dieser Endstufe das enorme Gewicht von fast 80 kg. Allein der Netztransformator wiegt annähernd 20 kg und leistet bis 1500 VA, das gleiche gilt für den Übertrager. Der Rest des Gewichtes ergibt sich aus den 6mm gelaserten Stahlgehäuse -Teilen und der Elektronik. So wundert es denn auch nicht, das z.B. bei Lieferung nach Übersee gerade mal 1 Paar Endstufen auf einer Europalette Platz haben und zumindest in Fern-Ost mindestens 3 Personen das Auspacken einer Endstufe "handeln". Kurz und gut, wer bislang auf der Suche nach einem Treiber seiner schwierigsten Lautsprecher gesuchte, ist mit Challenger 400 fündig geworden und kommt seinem Traum nach vollendetem Hörgenuß fundamental näher. Même avec cette brute force le AudioValve 400s sont douce et peuvent faire le plus prestigieux musique avec beaucoup d`art. Ils produisent un sonorité grande comme un terrain de football et bas comme un piste de quilles. C`est un Ferrari avec 12 tubes, chambre de post-combustion et Auto Bias Régulateur qui incarne le Plug-and-Play complètement. C`est ne pas nécessaire de bricoler avec le tournevis pour ajuster les bias, le Auto Bias Régulateur fait tout ca pour vous. Allumez cet miracle et laissez fluer la musique comme vous voulez. Le plus mal le degré d`éfficacité du haut-parleurs, le plus grand deviens l`alimentation d`amplificateur nécessaire. Un exemple sont les haut-parleurs électrostatiques de la firme “Sound-Labs” du USA. Ces haut-parleurs, qui sont leader dans la scène du High-End, ont un degree d`éfficacité de 80dB (relever du modèle). Dans le plus mal cas il faisent un capacité du 10 uF aux bornes. Ici on va très claire qu`on a besoin du courant suffisantes pour venir à bout de le transbordement de cet dimensions de capacité dans les fréquences hautes.

La branche réagit avec des grandes transistor dernier étages, mais beacoup de ces appareils avortent á cette charge complexe et produisent un sonorité maraud. On avait besoin de développer un amplificateur à haute performance qui peux surmonter ces problèmes du jeu et aussi produit un sonorité excellent. C`est connu que les dernier étages avec tubes s`harmonise mieux avec les electrostatics. Notre série Challenger a prouver ca plusieurs fois. Mais avec les Challenger 400s on a arrive la classe de ces haut-parleurs pour quels on avait jusqu`à présent besoin de chercher des dernier étages utilisable et payable. Challenger 400s créer aussi avec des magétostatiques une symbiose de fantasie et ingénierie qui produit un plaisir spéciale d`écouter de la musique.

Comme toutes les dernier étages plus grandes d`AudioValve, le concept est le éprouvé concept de PP. Cet principe a resister au temps dans notre maison depuis un décennie. Comme ca le Challenger 400 as plusieurs de mécanismes pour stabiliser et controller (p.e. l` Automatique Régulateur de Bias pour chaque tube) qui guarantee que l`amplificateur tenir bon chaque charge. Vous pouvez départer les bornes du haut-parleurs quand l`amplificateur est allumer ou court-circuiter les bornes de poles (120 Amp.), connecter les bones de poles avec 15 uF, inductives ou mêlé – notre Challenger 400 travailles dans toutes ces cas stable et sont pour ainsi dire “increvable”.

L` intérieur technique est arrondi d` indications optique, comme un “oeil magique” dans le front qui contôle le trousseau ou des LEDs qui avise le correct tension constante du tubes. Pas en dernier le poids énorme de 80kg résulte de la force de cet amplificateur. Seulement le transformateur d`alimentation as un poids de 20kg et livre jusqu`à 1500VA, le même conviens pour le translateur. Le rest du poids résulte de les 6mm laser acier culots et l`électricité. Comme ca c`est ne pas un surprise que juste une couple de dernier étages a espace dans une palette euro et aussi qu`on a besoin de 3 personnes quand on veux décaisser un dernier étage. Pour tout dire, qui a cherché un driver pour ses haute parleurs diffictultes jusqu`à maintenant est fructueux maintenant et approche son rêve de plaisir d`écouter accompli fundamental.
